Of all the clubs in a typical golf bag, if there is one that can win, or lose a golf tournament, then without doubt that club is the humble putter.
The relationship between a golfer and their putter can be a very mixed one. South African legend Gary Player once quipped: "It's a marriage. If I had to choose between my wife and my putter, well, I'd miss her."
Putting has always been recognised as a game within a game; an art form all of its own that has delighted and exasperated golfers through the generations. Perhaps one of the most insightful comments ever made about the art of putting came from the great Bobby Jones who stated:
"Bad putting is due more to the effect the green has upon the player than it has upon the action of the ball."
